France: INNOQUA demo site in La Canourgue
La Canourgue is a French commune located in the South of France, in the department of Lozere in the Occitania region, 160 km north of Montpellier. The INNOQUA demo site is located at the Source du Frézal aquaculture farm (Loius Pasteur high school), where it demonstrates the role of earthworms in ecological processing and valorisation of agro-industrial sludge. Sludge management is a major issue for inland fish farming facilities. The INNOQUA solution aims to overcome the problem of disposal by controlling and neutralising sludge as waste, and transforming waste into compost.

Design Capacity: 60m3/year (agro-industrial sludge)
Source of Wastewater: Source du Frézal aquaculture farm
Scientific Research Objectives:
To test the effectiveness of treatment and sludge recovery through lumbricomposting on an industrial large-scale level. Installation in France of a first permanent site for fish and aquaponics waste treatment, with an educational mission and national and international influences.
Sludge treatment system in two phases:
Phase 1 – pumping, thickening and mixing sludge with green waste
Phase 2 – hot fermentation (2 weeks), ripening process (10 weeks) and recovery of lumbricompost
